Four Classes of Membership

  • Charter School Members - "School Members"
    • Are voting members of the organization.
    • Must be an operating Charter School (School) as licensed by the NC State Board of Education (SBE) under the NC Charter Agreement between the SBE and a Nonprofit Corporation (Nonprofit). Each School Member appoints an individual to be its Designated Representative to attend meetings, cast votes, etc. An individual may serve as the Designated Representative for multiple School Members.
    • Pay dues ($10 per student) that reflect Average Daily Membership (ADM) and reflect number of votes. Schools above 1,000 ADM may join at $10,000 but then are limited to 1,000 votes.
    • Will be awarded votes based on ADM for the first 20 days recorded at the beginning of the most recent school year. Voting shall be cumulative.

  • Organizational Members
    • Are voting members of the organization.
    • May be corporations, such as Education Management Organizations (EMOs), or Charter Management Organizations (CMOs).
    • May join up to the ADM of the largest independently operated charter school in North Carolina. Organizational Members may also join at $10,000. An Organizational Member shall only be entitled to a number of votes equal to the amount of dues paid.
  • Affiliate Members
    • Are subject to the approval of the Board of Directors; any entity may request recognition as an Affiliate Member. Entities may be corporations, vendors, or other groups as approved by the Board.
    • May enjoy all of the privileges of its class as determined by the Board, if granted recognition and in good standing.
    • Do not vote.
    • Board may establish classes of Affiliate Members and the annual dues for each class (Platinum, Gold, etc.).
  • Individual Members
    • Are teachers, board members, etc., of charter schools.
    • If granted recognition, an Individual Member in good standing may enjoy all of the privileges of its class as determined by the Board.
    • Do not vote.
    • Board may establish classes of Individual Members and the annual dues for each class (Platinum, Gold, etc.).
